And Then There's Samuel Zell

Brian Tierney and Samuel Zell would seem to be soulmates.

Like the new owner of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News, Zell has no publishing experience but sees the newspaper industry as an "inefficient" market.

Zell, who has made billions in real estate, is in negotiations with the Tribune Company, which owns some once hot newspaper properties, including The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune and The Baltimore Sun.
